Media

This is the work that does not belong inside one room. Music comes first, because music is where all of it started, and then the writing and the research that come out of the same three disciplines.

The music itself lives under Music, and the films and recordings arrive here as they are made. Further down is the study on conducting, with its synopsis to download.

Music · Film · Writing · Research

Music

Music came first, and it is still the thread through the rest of the work: the violin, the conducting, and the ensembles and scores that come with them.

The film of the Irish Chamber Orchestra Academy concert goes here as soon as the footage is ready, and the recordings and conversations follow it. Until then the music itself — performance, sessions, arranging and score work — lives under Music.

The study

In 2017 I submitted a thesis for an MA in Business Management at the University of Limerick: Leadership in the Orchestral Environment — the concept of an orchestral conductor as a metaphor of good management.

A conductor stands in front of a hundred professionals of their instruments and cannot force any of them to play. What is left once authority is off the table is a hundred people who are able to refuse, and may not. That is where the research starts.

Writing

Pieces I have written, and pieces I am writing. Each one goes up when it is finished.

The first of them come out of the research below: what audiences actually do when they are asked to pay for something creative, and what that means for the people making it. Anything drawn from a client's work appears only where the client has said yes.

Research

Market and audience research for musicians, filmmakers and wellness projects: sizing a market from published figures, finding where an audience already gathers, pricing something without guessing, and telling a good idea apart from a fundable one.

from €500

Commission a piece of research. A defined question, answered from published data and, where it matters, from the people themselves, then written up so it can be handed to a board, a funder or a bank.

  • A defined question — one market, one audience, one decision. €500, usually two to three weeks.
  • A single answer, one page, sources shown — €250.
  • A full market picture — sizing, competitors, what people pay, where the audience is. Quoted per project, above €500.
